Itinerary
Drive to Wukro: Enjoy a scenic drive through the Tigrayan countryside, taking in the stunning views of the mountains and villages. The drive to Wukro is approximately 47 km.
Wukro Churches: Upon arrival in Wukro, you'll visit two magnificent rock-hewn churches: Medhani Alem Adi Kesho and Wukro Cherkos
Medhani Alem Adi Kesho: This church is believed to have been built in the 4th century AD and is dedicated to the Holy Saviour. The church is known for its intricate carvings and frescoes.
Wukro Cherkos: This impressive church is partially rock-hewn and partially built with freestanding walls. The church is known for its beautiful murals and its collection of ancient manuscripts.
Lunch: After exploring the Wukro churches, you'll have a chance to enjoy a delicious Ethiopian lunch at a local restaurant.
Abraha we Atsbeha: In the afternoon, you'll head to Abraha Atsbeha, one of the oldest and most important rock-hewn churches in Ethiopia. The church is believed to have been built in the 4th century AD and is dedicated to Saints Abraha and Atsbeha.
Wukro Museum: Before returning to Mekelle, you'll have a chance to visit the Wukro Museum, which houses a collection of artefacts from the region, including archaeological finds, religious items, and traditional clothing.
Return to Mekelle: Finally, you'll relax and enjoy the return drive to Mekelle, where you'll be dropped off at your hotel.
