3-day adventure expedition into the Danakil Depression. From Mekelle we drive to Erta Ale volcano, which we will climb at night and camp at the rim of the crater. On the next day, we admire the traditional salt mining at lake Afrera before we proceed to Hamed Ela for the second night. On the third day, we explore early in the morning the surreal landscapes of Dallol and meet the huge camel caravans transporting the salt blocks to the Highlands before we leave the desert and return back to Mekele,
This is a round trip staring from and returning to Mekele. We offer daily departures joining a group. Please note that depending on the local conditions, we might also do this tour in the opposite direction heading first to Dallol and returning via Erta Ale to Mekele.
Itinerary
In the morning after breakfast our agent will pick you guys from the airport or your hotel and meet the group you will Join.
On this day drive to the basecamp of Erta-Ale Volcano, after arrival around 6pm arrange what you need for a night hike to the top of Volcano. It will be 3-4 Hours hike up.visit the volcano (Erta-Ale) around 11:30pm
Overnight sleep in Erta-Ale
Woke 5am then hike back to the basecamp there meet the team and have breakfast then start driving to Hamedella (Dallol)
After arrival visit camel caravans and lake Asale salty lake.
Overnight Sleep in Hamedella
After breakfast, drive to Dallol colorful land and hike to the top where you will see the sulfur lakes and colorful land.
After the visit back to the cars, then visit the salt worker.
After the visits drive back to Mekelle. You will be back around 5pm. Here we will drop you to your hotel or to the airport
